SPRING UPDATE AND SEEDLING SALE NEWS

It has been a while since I’ve written anything here so it’s time for a quick update. If you are signed up for my newsletter you will already know some of this!

February was spent with family in England and I had a great time visiting gardens, arboretums, garden centres and more. It is lovely to leave the snow behind in Ottawa and see flowers blooming in England. As usual I did lots of gardening for my family.

During March and April I started lots of seeds and worked on my own garden as well as taking part in a couple of craft markets. Work in my garden has progressed well and I am happy with the new addition of a flower bed where the old deck used to be. All the garden beds now also have a mulch of mushroom compost – another big job completed!

The retaining wall still needs finishing but I am loving the rusty metal edging that I put around the new border. In fact, I love it so much that I have bought more to replace some old plastic edging in a different border!

MARKET UPDATE

This Saturday May 11 I am back at 613flea for the Mother’s Day market. This is going to be a fun day and I have some lovely gift ideas if you still have shopping to do. There is always a great selection of craft and vintage vendors as well as delicious food vendors too.

SEEDLING SALE 2024

The seedling sale will be on Saturday May 18th 9 – 1pm at my home address in Ottawa or by appointment. My newsletter subscribers have already had access to the sale list and it will go live on my website on Friday May 10th.

Here’s a few things to note:

  • I am very conscious of my use of plastic so many are for sale in compostable newspaper pots or cardboard tubes. Any that come in plastic will be in pots that have been washed and reused. I am happy to take back any pots you get from me and reuse them.
  • These are small seedlings not full grown plants and will need some extra care but should establish quickly
  • I suggest bringing a box or tray to put them in for transporting and planting them as soon as possible. If you are unable to plant straight away then please pot them up into a slightly larger pot
  • All the seedlings are hardened off and ready to plant – except a few of the more heat loving tender ones may need to wait until night time temperatures are consistently above 10C
  • Most seedlings are $3.50 each or 2/$6. Perennials and other potted plants vary in price

If what you are looking for is not listed or sold out please contact me to check whether I have any available. (Unfortunately Sweet peas are sold out already!) Managing the inventory and what I have is not always easy. And there are always some plants that I only have a few of so do not list them; such as lady’s mantle, ground cover sedums, Penstemon digitalis, Digitalis lutea, Little blue stem grass etc.

You can also contact me here for the address or any other questions.

May is a great month in the garden and I hope you enjoy anticipating all the flowers that will be coming soon!
