JANUARY 2024 Update

This update is taken from my recent newsletter. You can sign up for the newsletter here and be the first to hear my news, sales, garden tips and exclusive newsletter subscriber offers.

A good way to start the year is to invest in yourself and your own education. I treated myself to an online course about making “flower panels” by Layla Robinson. She is based in UK and does the most beautiful artwork using dried flowers. Take a look at her website by clicking here and you will see why I was so inspired to have ago at these myself!

I made two frames using Layla’s easy to follow directions and then filled them with layers of my dried flowers. It reminded me of making my “Summer-in-a-Jar” series and how to capture the beauty of the garden to enjoy all year long!
The tutorials are easy to follow, there’s lots of useful information and Layla carefully guides you through the design process leaving room for your own inspiration and style.
It was an enjoyable few days working through the process and you can now see the panels hanging in the window of Morning Owl Parkdale. Drop by for a look and enjoy some of their great coffee and treats!

One important thing to mention is how easy it is to find and copy artists work from social media without giving credit to the original artist. I have had a conversation about this with Layla and we both agree it is a huge problem with no easy solutions. I will continue to mention her as the original designer of these flower panels whenever I post or discuss my making them. I also expect it will be a hot topic of discussion when I meet up with a few flower farmers when I am visiting UK in February!

You can take a look at Layla Robinson’s Instagram for more beauty to brighten your snowy winter’s day!

What To Replace The Christmas Decorations With

Here is a sneak peek at what else is in the newsletter. If your home needs a little refresh after Christmas here are some ideas…using dried flowers, of course!

Valentine’s Orders

If you are in the Ottawa area and are able to pick up your order from my home then take a look at what I have available for order at the moment. Last day to order is January 21st…yes, it seems an early cut off, but this will give me time to complete your order before I leave on January 30th to visit my family in UK!

There are Valentine’s Hearts and more!

Thank you for joining me on this flower journey for another year! In the next blog post there will be pictures of what is in bloom in England in February, along with my thoughts on the gardens I visit there.

See you back here next month! Rosalind
