If you have recently purchased dried flowers from me you might be wondering about the best way to care for them.

CARE TIPS FOR DRIED FLOWERS
Here are my top tips:
- Dried flowers are fragile so handle gently. Some petal loss is usual but you do not want to be constantly brushing past or knocking in to your dried flowers!
- Keep away from moisture – The best way to keep them looking good is to avoid getting them wet. If you really want to, you can put them in the bathroom but they will not last as long. High humidity is definitely the enemy of dried flowers!
- Keep out of direct sunlight – this will help them retain their brightness as long as possible and save them from the damaging UV rays.
- Keep away from heat sources. Too close to vents or fireplaces and they will become brittle faster. And definitely keep away from candles and open flames.
- Gently blow off any dust if it accumulates.
- And please do not spray with hairspray! I do not do this and find the flowers last well without being sprayed with anything.

How Long Do Dried Flowers Last?
I often get asked about how long my dried flowers will last and it is not easy to give a definite amount of time as it depends on many factors.
They are a natural product that has not been treated with chemicals, dyes or bleaches and they will easily last several months. With care they can last years but expect a few changes to them. Although some dried flowers, for example, strawflowers, will keep their colour well others, like dried zinnias, will slowly fade and take on a more vintage look. I think that this just adds to the charm of a bouquet or wreath.
Just because they are long lasting it does not mean that you need to keep them. After a few months or a year a dried bouquet will have served its purpose and you will certainly have enjoyed your money’s worth. So maybe it is time for a change or a new dried bouquet!
When your dried flowers come to the end of their life or you grow tired of them, I would suggest having some fun and playing around with them. Save any stems that are still looking good and make into little bunches to attach to gifts, use as hair decorations or mini buttonholes. If you are really creative you can rearrange a few stems in a vase and get a whole new look!

I also use the fallen petals and flower heads arranged across the table as a cute decoration for special occasions or store and display them in a decorative jar or bowl for fun.
Art pieces, such as shadow boxes or my ‘Summer-in-a-Jar, should last for many years as they are protected under glass.

Then eventually, when it is time to say goodbye, all my flowers are fully compostable in the green bin or your home compost bin. And if that means you now have an empty vase or space on the wall, then get in touch for a refill of dried flowers!
