It has been a wild ride these last few weeks. Raising seedlings, getting them all planted and off to a great start relies on the cooperation of the weather. The cold, then scorching heat delayed things a bit but then on the day of my seedling sale Ottawa was hit by a massive damaging storm.
Thanks to everyone who came and safely picked up their seedlings before the storm hit. It was a mad dash to get things under cover in time. Lots of trees come down in our neighbourhood but we were fortunate and only lost a large branch, our gazebo roof and our power was out for 8 days.
All of the stress is soon forgotten though when the flowers start blooming! After the early spring bulbs comes the first of the perennial flowers.
These are a few things doing their best right now.

Filling your garden with these reliable perennial bloomers is a good way to start off the season while you wait for the annuals to start flowering.

And adding some flowering shrubs and interesting foliage is useful too. This is a weigela bush that was in the garden when we arrived. I love it’s dark leaves and vibrant pink flowers!

I may also add more dates to these later. I am looking forward to joining these passionate organic farmers at this long running Market. It’s amazing that it has been around for over 30 years now!
